Report: Belarus eyes making trucks on ex-Volvo plant in Russia

MINSK, Jul 3 (PRIME) -- Belarus could start producing trucks or buses of the MAZ brand on the empty premises formerly owned by Volvo in Russia, ambassador Dmitry Krutoi told channel Belarus 1 on July 2.

"There is a range of premises that are interesting to us and those we could use… For instance, Volvo’s truck plant, a brand new plant ready for use. We could easily place production of either MAZ trucks, passenger buses or electric vehicles there," Krutoi said.

The official added that Russia is ready to provide the plant virtually for free on condition that the new owner keeps industrial production, jobs, competences and makes a final product there. Belarus plans to discuss proposals and projects concerning the facilities in three to four months.
